There are spectacular flowering vines — and then there is the Red Jade Vine (Mucuna bennettii). Native to the tropical rainforests of Papua New Guinea and distributed across the islands from Sulawesi to Vanuatu, it produces pendant racemes of fiery scarlet, claw-shaped flowers that hang in chandelier-like clusters up to 90–120 cm long — each raceme a cascade of dozens of vivid blooms that drip with nectar and attract birds from a distance. It is a vigorous, woody climber that grows fast and reaches impressive size, requiring a strong tree, pergola, or trellis to support it. In India's tropical and subtropical climate it is completely at home outdoors year-round — and a well-established vine in full flower is genuinely one of the most dramatic sights in the plant world.

💡 The Most Important Rule — Sun on Top, Shade on the Roots Red Jade Vine has an unusual requirement that catches many growers off-guard: the canopy wants full sun, but the roots must stay cool and shaded. Plant at the base of a tree or pergola where the root zone stays naturally shaded, or mulch the root area heavily (7–10 cm deep) to keep it cool. Exposed, sun-baked roots cause chronic stress, yellowing, and failure to flower — even when the vine above looks healthy.
☀️

Light

Full sun to bright partial shade for the canopy — at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily produces the most vigorous growth and flowering. South or west-facing open garden positions are ideal. Roots must be kept shaded at all times — see note above.

💧

Watering

Keep soil consistently moist during the growing season — water deeply 2–3 times a week in warm weather. Allow the top few centimetres to dry slightly between waterings; the vine tolerates brief dry spells but not prolonged drought. Mulch heavily to retain soil moisture and keep roots cool. Reduce watering in cooler months.

💦

Humidity

Moderate to high humidity preferred — thrives in India's tropical outdoor climate without intervention. For potted specimens in drier conditions, mist the foliage in the morning. Sensitive to cold dry air below 13°C — bring indoors or protect during cold spells.

🌱

Growing Media

Deep, rich, well-draining organic soil. Mix 35% loamy garden soil, 35% well-rotted compost or FYM, 20% coarse sand or perlite, 10% coco coir. pH 6.0–7.5. For pots, use the largest container possible — at least 45–50 cm wide and deep. Mulch the surface 7–10 cm deep. In-ground planting is strongly preferred for mature plants.

🌾

Feeding

Feed with a balanced or phosphorus-rich fertilizer (low nitrogen) every 6–8 weeks during the growing season. High nitrogen promotes excessive leaf growth at the direct expense of flowering — avoid it. Top-dress with well-rotted compost every 3 months. Stop feeding in winter.

🌸 Flowering — What to Expect and When Red Jade Vine typically flowers from its second year onwards, with blooms appearing in autumn and winter. Each raceme takes weeks to develop fully — do not disturb the vine once buds are forming. Prune immediately after flowering to encourage strong new growth for the next season's flowers. Consistent bright light, cool roots, and low-nitrogen feeding are the three most reliable triggers for flowering.
⚠️ Common Issues & Quick Fixes

Yellow Leaves

The most common symptom — almost always caused by cold temperatures below 13°C or overheated, sun-exposed roots. Check temperature and ensure the root zone is shaded and mulched. Overwatering or poor drainage can also cause yellowing — check soil conditions.

Not Flowering

Most likely causes: plant under 2 years old, roots in direct sun, too much nitrogen fertilizer, or insufficient light. Ensure roots are shaded and mulched, switch to a low-nitrogen bloom fertilizer, and ensure the canopy gets at least 6 hours of sun. Flowering peaks in autumn — patience through summer is essential.

Slow Growth

Insufficient light, poor soil nutrition, or a pot that is too small. Move to a sunnier position, enrich the soil with compost, and ensure the container is large enough — or plant in-ground. This vine grows vigorously once established in the right conditions.

Leaf Drop

Cold temperatures below 13°C cause rapid leaf drop. Protect from cold and bring potted plants indoors or under cover during cold spells. Resume normal care once temperatures stabilise above 15°C — new leaves will emerge.

Mealybugs or Spider Mites

Inspect leaf undersides and stem joints. Spray thoroughly with diluted neem oil or insecticidal soap every 7–10 days for 3 weeks. Good air circulation and adequate watering reduce pest pressure significantly.

Good basic t-shirt with one caveat
Size: XX-Large, Color: Crunchberry, Number of Items: 1
This shirt has a good weight to it and feels well made. I bought three of them after reading a review at the New York Times. It is a really good t-shirt for a great price. The only caveat is the sizing. For a unisex shirt the shoulder width is a bit too broad for a woman. The shoulder seam is a good two inches below my shoulder. That's probably to be expected, but if you are a woman and that would bother you I would look for another shirt with women's sizing. Also, the neck is weirdly high and I keep pulling it away a bit. Not deal breakers for me but did cause me to knock off a star. If I could I'd give it four and a half stars.

Comfortable, Colorful, Soft, Affordable.
Size: Large, Color: Ice Blue, Number of Items: 1
These T Shirts are as good as it gets especially at the price point. All cotton, very soft, very colorful. Wash well. If you don’t want them to shrink, I suggest air drying them. I had an XL one for years and pretty much ignored it. Found it again and it’s amazing to wear to bed or around the house. At These prices if you need or want a T shirt, this is the one to get.

The Perfect Tee Shirt
Size: X-Large, Color: White, Number of Items: 2
I bought one of these shirts to see if they’re as good as the customer reviews suggest. They most certainly are! They have a nice weight, a great fitting collar, and the shirts have a generous length so they stay tucked in. The sleeves are longer than normal tee shirts, which I really appreciate. These shirts are such high quality, and such an amazing bargain, that I bought four more!

A Great T Shirt
Size: XX-Large, Color: Denim, Number of Items: 1
Take it from a T type of guy, I love these T shirts. They soften with each washing and their color holds. I also think they are extremely comfortable. My forever "go-to" shirt.

Comfort Colors T-shirt sizing is inconsistent from shirt to shirt
Size: Large, Color: Denim, Number of Items: 1, Size: Large, Color: Denim, Number of Items: 1
Do a search in the reviews of these T-shirts using the word “inconsistent” and you’ll see others have similar comments to mine. With almost 27,000 reviews on these shirts, not sure if anyone will even see this review, but here we go. I have about 5 Comfort Colors T-shirts that I got in the past year; all are size Large, and they fit great in the body and neck with nice soft cotton, and they are fantastic T-shirts. I recently ruined a denim-colored Comfort Colors T-shirt using Spray-n-Wash on a couple food stains on the chest; the Spray-n-Wash faded the blue color in the treated areas. No worries, I’ll just order a replacement shirt…. I decided to order two replacement Comfort Colors T-shirts with one being blue jean-colored and the second being a denim-colored T-shirt. Both are blue with blue jean being slightly lighter blue than the denim, but I decided to order two since I like these T-shirts so much. The blue jean shirt arrived and fit great and is just like all my other large Comfort Colors shirts, and it’s a keeper. However, the denim shirt I received was too small: it was tight in the chest, the body was shorter, and the sleeves were shorter. I have attached two photos with one showing this new denim shirt on top of the shirt I ruined with Spray-n-Wash and another showing this new denim shirt on top of an orange Custom Colors shirt to show the smaller size of the new shirt. The neck-size in the new denim shirt I received was fine, but the shirt was noticeably too small in all other dimensions. I immediately ordered another denim-colored shirt hoping to get a “correct size” shirt, and the second denim shirt arrived the next day, and it was also smaller in all the dimensions exactly like the first denim shirt I had just ordered. All three of these new Comfort Colors shirts (one blue jean and two denim) and the denim shirt I ruined with Spray-n-Wash were sold and delivered by Amazon (i.e. none were third party vendors). I’m returning both of the too-small denim-colored shirts, and I’ll live without that color and enjoy my new blue jean shirt. As another point of reference, I purchased a pepper-colored Comfort Colors T-shirt from a third-party vendor on Amazon about 11-months ago in November 2024, and the neck on the pepper shirt was too large and gave the shirt a stretched-out and worn-out look even though the shirt was new. A third attached photo of the pepper shirt next to an orange Custom Colors shirt and shows the neck size difference. I messed up and didn’t return the pepper shirt within 30-days last year, but since I never wear it due to the way-too-large neck opening, it’s going to Goodwill. Ordering these shirts from Amazon as the seller has been hit or miss and doesn’t guarantee a consistent fit, and ordering shirts from a third-party seller on Amazon didn’t work out well when I did it in November 2024. So, I’m not sure what the lesson is here other than the sizing of these shirts is inconsistent; when the sizing is correct they're great, but ordering them online and getting correct sizing can be a PITA. It’s a bit of a hassle to have to take them to a UPS Store or other location to return the shirts if they don’t fit well, but at least if you order through Amazon Prime, the returns are free.
